  • Western Carolinian February 16, 1995 Careers Graduate student describes intern experience Andrew Capone CAP Center Correspondent Throughout the year students enrolled in the Co-op program, provided through the CAP Center, can work at a variety of different organizations. Shelia Rupp, a graduate student, interned in Dallas, Texas this past summer. What is your field of study? Human Resource Development. Where did you work? I worked for an international organization called Drake Beam Morin, Inc. (DBM). The company is the largest human resource consulting firm in the world and the undisputed leader in outplacement consulting. Last year's revenues were 130 million. Can you give me an example of the types of service DBM provides? They deliver outplacement counseling to employees from all types of organizations who have recently been displaced (or released). The counseling takes the form of resume writing, polishing interview techniques, and electronic research training. What was your primary responsibility at DBM? Doing research on the latest technology available to access job development information. From your perspective, where do you see DBM heading in the future? I see DBM becoming smaller to be.able to continue to provide personable service to their clients. Why? Because as the world becomes smaller in terms of information transfer, people need to become more real with one another. Would you recommend a co-op for both undergraduate and graduate students? Absolutely! Why? Because it gets you out of the classroom setting and what is learned becomes more real. Simply put, the coop program provided the opportunity of a lifetime!
