Marlene Hyatt granted a state's motion to have guardians appointed to provide custody and care for the four children. According to the News and Observer, the autopsy report, done by Dr. John Butts of the State Medical Examiner Office in Chapel Hill, states that Queen's body was covered with bruises on the arms, legs, and the back of one hand. The report also says that his nose was broken, his hair had been hacked off, and burn marks were found on his penis and his arm, where the name of his girlfriend (Vickie) had been tattooed. It was also reported that he had head injuries, and had been sodomized with a club. Court documents report the following items were taken during searches made on April 14th: a dog chain, two dog collars, a book titled "Infamous Murderers", a small sledgehammer, a mop, a broom, scissors, a claw hammer, a screwdriver, nails, a bent coat hanger, Palmolive dish soap, aerosol spray cans, a plastic garbage bag, cigarette lighters, a length of clear packing tape, a metal-handled fly swatter, duct tape, a soldering iron, two prescription bottles, hair clippers, fabric scraps, a hinge, a closet rack, a traffic ticket, a pink receipt from a pawn shop, a check stub, a razor, and two nightsticks. The News and Observer reported that police said on March 25th, after beating and torturing Queen for six days, the defendants bound and gagged him, jammed his body into the narrow closet in the trailer's middle bedroom, and nailed the door shut. Then Kenneth Fox, accompanied by at least two of the defendants, cashed Queen's unemployment check, ate at a local pizza parlor (An anonymous source says Cullowhee's own Pizza Hut), and returned to find Queen had died in the tight closet while they were gone. The Herald reported that Kenneth Fox was indicted on may 23rd by the Jackson County Grand Jury on charges of forgery and uttering. The Neivs and Observer reported that after finding Queen dead, they waited a few hours and then wrapped the body in a blue electric blanket and put it in a blue 1982 Oldsmobile 98 Regency. At least three adults and a couple children made the trip to Georgia where the body was dumped in a remote part of Chattahoochee National Forest, two hours from Cullowhee. The Asheville Citizen reported that authorities found the body covered with leaves, tree branches, and dirt by the bank of a creek. All of the suspects remain in custody. According to court records Michelle Vinson and Michael Hagedorn remain in custody with no bond set. Robert Trantham is being held on $350,000 bond. On May 25th Carlton Anderson's bond was reduced from $350,000 to $100,000 based on his attorney's motion that his client had fully cooperated with authorities, and had less involvement in the crimes and no prior criminal record. All are in custody in the Jackson County Jail. Being held in the Haywood County Jail are Kenneth and Vickie Fox, both with bond set at $350,000. Also being held in Haywood County is Walter York without bond. The Citizen reported that although Kenneth Fox had accused Queen of taking indecent liberties with his 5-year-old daughter, no evidence was ever produced that lead to a criminal charge against Queen. The News and Observer reported that Detective Ashe believes the group had a second motive for killing Queen, but said it would not come out until the trials begin.
