The Cats got the ball down the floor quickly and into King's hands. King was fouled, though, and went to the line for a one-and-one. The first shot clanged out, and the Bulldogs rebounded. Jones hit the two free throws to ice the game. from the ACC, SEC, SC and other NCAA I-A and I-AA conferences and independent schools in the Carolinas, Georgia, Virginia and Florida. He has been selected to the SC All-Academic Team for three consecutive years. "This is a significant honor for Tho-. mas and a tribute to Western Carolina University," said Larry Travis, WCU's Director of Athletics, upon receiving notification of the award from the NCAA. "He sets an example for all student-athletes. He is a credit to the true spirit of college athletics and is an excellent ambassador for WCU and college football as he combines leadership and excellence in the classroom, in campus and community life and on the playing field. Young men like Thomas make you feel good about our future leadership," he added. Jackson also finds time to be actively involved in the FCA and Pi Lambda Phi, as an officer in each organization, and is active in the DARE program as a volunteer to speak to boys and girls about the pressures of life, grades and drugs. 'Cats Top Eagles" from pg. 8 Head Coach Benny Dees was understandably unhappyafter the game saying, "We can't finish games. We had Chattanooga in the same position. We were awfully, awfully flat, and I don't know why." The loss ended Western Carolina's home winning streak and dropped them to 2-4 in Southern conference play. put the game away for the Cats at 86-82. Before he headed for the locker room, Dees saluted the student section for their support during the game. It was a much more relieved Dees that met the press after the game. - "That was the first game we finished in I don't know how long," Dees said. The first half was a back and forth affair with the lead changing hands nine times. Momentum finally swung the Cats' way for good with 3:31 left in the half. Johnny Scott was called for a foul, a call Dees did not agree with. About ten seconds of screaming drew a technical foul, sending the players and fans into a frenzy. Pierre McKisic hit the two technical foul shots, but Tim Heath missed the two foul shots, causing an even louder eruption from the crowd.
