Old Testament city Destination delightful Daytona The countdown to the thirtieth Anniversary of Spring Break in Daytona Beach has begun! From mid-February through mid-April, thousands of students from throughout the United States will converge on the "Spring Break Capital" for days of fun in the sun. Some of the highlights of this year will include: •MTV/Much Music Coverage of Spring Break - MTV is scheduled to cover the event March 10-17. Canada's Much Music will be headquartered at the Howard John son Hotel February 17-23. •Product expos and giveaways — SpringFcst '92 Expo, March 9-13, 16-20, on the beach between Holiday Inn Boardwalk and Howard Johnson; Expo America, March 12- 17, Ocean Center; "Spring Break Fest," March 12-22 on the beach, south of Main Street Pier. •Sporting events like parasail rides, Daytona Beach Spring Break College Baseball Jamboree, Party Smart Spring Break Sand Classic sand sculpting contests, Playboy/ Schick 3 on 3 Spring Break Basket ball Tournament and Lagerfeld Spring Break Volleyball Tournament, as well as the 24th Annual Easter Beach Run on April 18. •Clubs, restaurants, shops and attractions all have special rates and packages for students during Spring Break. •And of course, the most importantaspectofany Spring Break --plenty of SUN!!! Polaroid puzzles on display Photographer Muriel Ehrman-Mandcl of Chapel Hill is now displaying her work in the Belk gallery through the end of this month. All events are open to the public free of charge. The Belk gallery exhibition will continue through Jan. 31. Ehrman-Mandel has been working with Polaroid SX70 cameras since 1984, primarily photographing female models interacting with landscapes. Her photographs are large puzzles with pieces made up of individual Polaroid prints. Each regular-sized print is pieced together with other prints to form one large, powerful image. She does all of the grid work on location, refining her work when she returns to the studio. For more information about her activities at WCU, contact the art department at telephone 227-7210. Workshop in pastel pigments planned The Asheville Art League is sponsoring a pastel workshop June 29-July 3rd at Warren Wilson College. AlanFlattmann.authorof The A,rt of Pastel Master Pastelist of the Pasted Society of America, co-founder of the Degas Society, and conductor of workshops for over twenty years, will be teaching.
