Dr. William Anderson and Dr. David Dorondo have responded by forming the new History Club. In last week's initial meeting of the history club, 12 people attended and officers were elected. Roger Hannah was elected chairman with Jason Heinz and Kevin Holland serving as treasurer and correspondent, respectively. Unlike Phi Alpha Theta, the international honor society for history majors, the history club's objective is to attract students in other majors who may have an avocational interest in history. Dr. Dorondo feels that the club will be a valuable addition to various organizations on campus. The club is run by students while Dorondo serves as the club's advisor and liaison between students and teachers. Because students in all majors are encouraged to participate, a broad range of programs will be planned and offered. Programs will include speakers, film presentations, which will address various geographic regions and time periods, and possible trips to historic sites such as the Museum of the Cherokee Indian. The club might also deal with contemporary history as well. In addition, the minutes of each meeting will be posted on the bulletin board outside the History Department office for those who were unable to attend the previous meeting. The club offers students an opportunity to socialize, but also to acquire valuable information on historical events. Meetings are scheduled every two weeks on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. in McKee 220. The next meeting, however, will be Wednesday, Oct. 30 in the third floor lounge of McKee. For more information contact Dr. David Dorondo at 7243 or go by McKee 247, Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 10-11 a.m. C&C/Rythm Syndicate rocks Cullowhee Jennifer Mann News Editor The "house" was packed with two thousand screaming fans Monday night when C&C Music Factory and Rythm Syndicate brought the party to the Ramsey Center in Cullowhee, USA! This concert, sponsored by Last Minute Productions (LMP) was successful, having more WCU students than non-students attend. "We had over one thousand students to attend, so that's great because we've never had that many students come to a concert sponsored by LMP before," said Mischa Baker, LMP President. Public Safety described the show as a good uneventful concert. Daryl Carter, WCU student, thought the opening band, Rythm Syndicate, was great. "This is the first concert I've ever been to," he said during the intermission. "I'm waiting for C&C to hit the stage." Rockin' Eddie Foxx and Randy Richards, from Z-91, took the stage to introduce each group. Fans responded to Rythm Syndicate by waving their arms in the air. No one was left sitting down. One of the younger audience members, Shaun Stephens in Carolinian photo by Stephanie Messer Zelma Davis, one of the lead singers for C&C Music Factory entices dancers during "Things That Make You Go Hmmm". the 5th grade, was there to hear C&C sing "Things that make you go hmmm." C&C was more than happy to oblige the audience with a non stop action performance in which Freedom threw out two of his towels and a pair of sunglasses to ecstatic fans. "Rock n' roll is my fa vorite music to play and performing it is what I like best," said See "Concert" page 3 Homecoming parade set Melissa Richardson News Writer The parade for Home- coming 1991 will begin Saturday morning at 10:30. The Homecoming parade will start at Cullowhee Baptist Church, proceeding to the intersection at Wachovia, where it will turn right. The parade will then continue through the main part of campus to the intersection at Scott Residence Hall, where it will turn left, then progress to the stadium, where the floats will be parked during the game. Tim Jacobs, Director of the University Center and Chairman of the Homecoming Committee, said this year's theme gives a good subject to use for floats. The theme for this year is "Catamount Football: Poised to Pounce in'91." The grand marshal of the parade this year will be Lucy Latta of Hillsborough, NC. At age 94, Latta is the oldest living alumna of West* ern Carolina University. The parade will include the WCU band and ROTC color guard, the Cherokee High School band, Greek floats and banners of campus clubs and organizations. Last Minute Productions, and Z-91/ The Western Carolinian will also have floats. The Homecoming Court will follow. Each member will be in a car, including Stephanie Jones, 1990 Homecoming Queen, The fire department and local wagon train will also participate. Prizes will be given for the best Greek float and the best independent banner or float. To enter the contest, contact Keith Crozinc in the Housing Office.
