Mr. and Mrs. Cat also brought home blue ribbons in all the categories they were rated and a superior all around Mascot Trophy. WCU competed with squads such as N.C. State, University of Kentucky, and University of South Carolina. The WCU Cheer S quad has very high expectations for this year's squad. They are aiming to compete in the College Nationals on ESPN this spring. The WCU puamount Cheer Squad has worked vigorously in preparations for this year's tough football schedule and made their debut at the opening football game on the road when the Cats battled N.C. State last Saturday at Carter Finley Stadium in Raleigh. Did You Know... The largest crowd to witness a home Catamount football game was November 19, 1983 as 13,924 fans came to see Western defeat Appalachian State 41 - 15. WCU continued in that year to finish runner-up in the NCAA Division I- AA championship game with an 11 - 3-1 record.
