Announcements Announcements Announcements Announcements Group to Study Prayer-On Wednesday, February 1, Women's Community Bible Study will begin a series of 12 lessons entiUed, "Toward a More Effective Prayer Life." The study originated with the Largo-Seminole Women's Bible Study in Florida and has appeared in Christian Life magazine. Although this interdenominational group is not church sponsored, it meets at Cullowhee Baptist Church near Hardee's on Wednesdays from 9:30 til 11:00am. Babysitting and printed lessons are provided by a free will offering. Interested pastors and visitors are cordially invited. The WCU Counseling and Psychological Services Center will be offering several "Groups for Growth and Change" during the Spring semester. These groups are open to all WCU students, faculty and staff at no charge. The Financial Aid Office will sponsor 4 workshops to help students understand and maximize their benefits from Financial Aid. Among the topics to be discussed are types of aid available, tips for filling out forms, minimal academic standards, changes in regulations for the '89-90 academic year, how need is determined, deadlines for submitting applications. The seminars will meet on Wednesday, February 1 & Thursday, February 2 in The Grand Room in The UC, from 12-lpm and 6-7pm Giving up cigarettes and smokeless tobacco can make a healthy difference in life. Quitting is not easy, but help is just around the corner because tobacco users can sign up for a "Fresh Start". The Jackson County Health Department and The Jackson County Chapter of the American Cancer Society are sponsoring a "Fresh Start" program for individuals who would like to kick the tobacco habit. "Fresh Start" is the Cancer Society's support program to help tobacco users "unlearn" user behavior. The program also helps to identify some of the reasons they smoke and/or chew, as well as aid in anticipating and preparing for difficulties in quitting. Smokers, dippers, and chewers who are ready to quit should plan to attend the course consisting of 4 one- hour group sessions held during a two week period. Applications for the Paul Douglas Scholarship must be completed and returned to Dr. Cloud on or before March 25,1989. Students interested in making application for the Prospective Teacher Scholarship Loan must do so to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction prior to March 1, 1989. I f you are already receiving such a loan, it is not necessary to reapply; however, you will be receiving information over the summer relative to your assistance for next year.
