Hill's visit Is a late addition to WCU's Lectures, Concerts, and Exhibitions Series. A staff writer for TV Guide magazine, Hlli and New York Daily News TV editor Jeff: Weingrad wrote the beslselling book, "Saturday Night: A Backstage History of 'Saturday Night live,'* which chronicles the maver ick show that became a .certifiable cultural phenomenon. When NBC launched "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) on October 11,1975, many observers feel that it changed tele vision, particularly television comedy, forever; With SNL came underground comedy's trappings—full of knowing drug references, casual profanity, a permissive attitude toward sex, deep disdain for show business convention, blistering political satire, and a bitter distrust of corporate power. In their book, Hill and Weingrad recreate the chaotic backstage scene where writers and performers from the comedy under- continued page 9 Shows 7 & 9 p.m. FATAL ATTRACTION Michael Douglas HZST" Glenn Close 11 Shows 7 & 9 p.m. "Return of the LIVING DEAD" Part 2 Shows 7:10 & 9:10 p.m. TOM STEVE TED SELLECK GUTTENBERG DANSON When it comes to babies, they're oil wet. Are you tired of Ft. Lauderdale and don't want to sit at home? Well, if you have money and need to get away. Last Minute Productions has the places. LMP is sponsoring two trips over the Spring Holiday. Students at Western, as well as non-students, have two LMP alternatives to spending Spring Break at home or cruising the Lauderdale scene. They range in price from $220 to $540 and include just about everything, except food and spending money. First, the much-balleyhooed Mexican venture, - interested students will be able to spend their holiday in Cancun, Mexico, "the place" for Spring Break this year, according to Roger Stevens, the trip's organizer. Known for the finest beaches in the world, Cancun's shores are brushed by the Caribbean. The waters are clear and blue, like those of the Bahamas, and the beaches are covered with some of the whitest sands found anywhere. Spring breakers who take the Cancun trip will be treated to a bit of all that Mexico has to offer. Even tough Cancun itself is not a very historical city in itself, having a life span of only 15-20 years, the history/archaeology buffs on LMP's trip will not be disappointed. The group has use of a tour vehicle for the entire trip, and will be visiting various places of historical and archaeological interest, such as the famous Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza ,some of the finest ruins In Central America. The trip will also visit the ruins of Tulumn, located on the beautiful coast bluffs. There will be plenty of chances for water sports on the Cancun trip: windsurfing, fishing, sailing, and even parasailing. Individuals will also get the chance to snorkel in a fish sanctuary, isolated from winds and waves, the perfect medium for beginning snorkelers. All equipment is available and easily rented from the hotel. On a day trip to Merida, it will be possible to visit museums, cathedrals, and to partake in some of Mexico's best shopping. With the current exchange rate of 2000 pesos to one American dollar, now is definitely an opportune time for American shoppers. For those of you not wanting to miss out on the traditional Spring Break chance to party, you will not be left out. "Cancun itself is very hip," said Stevens, "There are lots of clubs and discos. The nightlife is incredible." The price tag of LMP's Cancun adventure is $525 for WCU students, and $540 for non-students. These prices are base prices and the lowest available, according to Stevens. There are no other Cancun trips available in the area; they are all booked up. The price includes round trip airfare from Atlanta, transportation to and from Atlanta, and hotel accommodations. If Cancun trip does not appeal to you, LMP is offering another, less expensive trip to the Florida Keys. This trip runs $220 for students, $250 for non-students. The Keys trip provides the chance for plenty of deep-sea fishing, snorkeling, swimming, and just lounging on the beach (while the temperatures drop In the Carolinas). Anyone interested in these trips is urged to sign up in the University Center as soon as possible. There are spaces available, but they are not expected to last.
