Self-Improvement Bacchus Sadd Merger by Sandy Davis STAFF REPORTER BACCHUS, Boost Alcohol Counsciousness Concerning the Health of University Students- has just recently become affiliated with SADD, Students Against Drunk Driving, on the WCU campus. When asked why the two have joined, President Karl Krauss commented that recent high school graduates are more familiar with SADD and its various programs, and may therefore get more students on the campus involved. The plan has worked so far. The first meeting of BACCHUS- SADD was held last week with the largest attendence ever. The club is still looking to grow. One of their primary goals for the year is to get representatives from other organizations at Western to join. BACCHUS-SADD is a club that stresses responsible drinking and promotes sobriety when driving. The club is not against drinking alcoholic beverages but points out that there are limits, and people have responsibilities to themselves as well as other people. In fact, the club members are made up of drinkers and non- drinkers alike. The group is involved with many activities throughout the year. They set up Non-alcoholic bars at many university functions including the homecoming dance. They also take part in the Great American Escape. Other events such as a DWI Rodeo, the classiest room contest, and a party giveaway are also sponsered by BACCHUS-SADD. This year's annual BACCHUS convention will be held in Louisville, Kentucky, in November. BACCHUS-SADD invites any student who is interested to come to a meeting. They meet every Tuesday at 4:14 in the Cardinal Room, second floor U.C. by Sherra Robinson Staff Reporter GROUPS FOR GROWTH AND CHANGE The Western Carolina University Counseling, Testing and Psychological Services Center extends an open invitation to the students, faculty, and staff of Western Carolina University to participate in a series of "Groups for Growth and Change."
