  • Forensic Results Three members of the Western Carolina University Forensic Society Finished in the top five in the Appalachian State University Forensic Tournament in Boone Oct. 31-Nov. 1. The winners, by category, are: Informative Speaking-- Pamela J. Cook of Charlotte, fifth place. Impromptu speaking - Pernell Collett of High Point, third place. Prose - Pamela J. Cook, fifth place. After Dinner Speaking - Paul Mellor of Cranston. R.I.. third place. Overall. WCU's Forensic Society placed sixth in the tournament's individual event sweepstakes in a field of 28 colleges and universities. Two faculty members from WCU's speech and theatre arts department served as advisors and judges. Thev are Dr. Kathleen Sandquist and Mr. Joseph A. Walker. Phi Beta Lambda Phi Beta Lambda Business Organization will have an open meeting Thursday. November 6 at 6:00 p.m. in Room 223 Forsyth. Mr. Larry Bixby, Director of Placement at Western will be the guest speaker. He will talk about writing applications and resumes, interviewing, and how to secure an interview through the Placement Office. Phi Beta Lambda is a professional organization open to all students on campus. Membership includes membership in Ihe local, slate, and national organization. All students are encouraged to attend. Jews And Jesus Can a Jew believe in Jesus Christ and still be Jewish? Some will say this is impossible. There are other Jews who will say that they are more Jewish than ever because of their faith in Jesus. Rev..Jacobson is a grandson of a Latvian Rabbi, and is the nephew of two leading European Cantors. He is founder and director of Lamb of God Messianic Ministries, headquarted in Decatur, Georgia. John Kalet is a 20 vear old former high priest in a Satanic church who now lives in the Atlanta area . All persons who desire to know more about Jews and Jesus are encouraged to hear these two men. World Hunger Week Have you ever stopped in the middle of one of your three meals a day and thought about how many people in this world are starving? The Inter-faith Student Committee on World Hunger is sponsoring events during World Hunger Week to bring an awareness to the student body here at Western that people in this world really do go hungry. Events will start on Monday, November 17th and continue through Friday, November 21st to let the students know about world hunger and to give them, an opportunity to do something about it. There will be a speaker at the ASI Forum lecturing on the state of hunger on November 17th. On Tuesday, November 18th. slides will be shown in Dodson and Brown Cafeterias. On Wednesday, the different student denters will present programs dealing with the hungry of the world and on Thursday, November 20th, there will be a fund raising project. Proceeds will be donated to an organization working to feed the hungry. To end the Student Awareness Week on Hunger there will be a five minute shut down of the campus, beginning at 12:00 noon to reflect on the hungry of the world. Art Show Postponed An exhibit of original prints from Russia scheduled to open Nov. 10 in the art gallery of Western Carolina University's Belk Building has been postponed indefinitely and will be replaced by a three-man print show featuring the works of Tom Hammond, Evan Lindquist and Ronald Lukasiewicz. Sponsored by WCU's department of art, the show will open with a 7 p.m. public reception Monday, Nov 10. and remain on display through Dec.5. Hammond in an associate professor of art at the Univesity of Georgia and a former art instructor at WCU. His works in the show will include lithographs, intaglio and engraving media. He has participated in more than one hundred one-man shows, invitations and competitive exhibitions. Lindquist. professor of art at Arkansas State University, will be exhibiting recent engravings. His works have appeared in more than 120 juried exhibitions and 40 one-man exhibitions with more than 60 awards to his credit from competitive exhibitions. Lukasiewicz is preparator at the Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia and an accomplished silk screen printmaker. He has considerable teaching experience and broad professional experience. He currently serves as a consultant to Holt, Rinehart and Winston of New York.
