At Chattanooga Cadets Honored Two junior cadets and a senior cadet from Western Carolina University's Army ROTC unit recently were presented Department of the Army Certificate of Achievement awards by WCU Chancellor H. F. Robinson and Lt. Col. Wilmot T. Riley, head of WCU's ROTC program. The three cadets, Gayle Denise Billings of Tobacco- sille. Jeffry R. Dean of Athens, Ga., and Charles Wilson Vaughan-Lloyd of Winston-Salem, received the certificates for their participation in the honor company of an advance training camp held at Ft. Bragg this past summer. A total of 14 companies, each consisting of about 200 cadets, competed for the honor status during the six-week camp at which 102 colleges and universities from the Hast Coast were represented. The companies ssere judged on the basis of leadership abilities, physical fitness, marksmanship, tactics, land navigation and basic military skills. Miss Billings, a junior criminal justice major, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Billings of Tobaccoville and a 1978 graduate of North Forsyth High School. Designated this year as a Distinguished Military Student, she is the executive officer of WCU's Army ROTC Pershing Rifle drill team, commander of the ROTC Honor Guard, a dean's list student and member of WCU's Rifle Team. Dean, a junior business administration major, is the son of Mrs. Virginia Dean of Athens, Ga., and the late Will C. Dean. A graduate of Clarke Central High School, he is starting wide receiver for WCU's football team. Vaughan-Lloyd, a senior general management major, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Vaughan-Lloyd Jr. of Winston Salem and a graduate of R. J. Reynolds High School. He is a member of the ROTC Pershing Rifle drill team and Honor Guard, the WCU Golden Guard and marketing management club. University Chorus The University Chorus will perform a concert of varying musical styles this evening (Thursday 10/30) at 8:00 p.m. in the recital hall of the Music/English building. Several soloists and instrumentalists will be featured in selections including music from "Oliver," "Christ Is Born Today," and "The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy." The public is invited free of charge.
