Collegiate use of the three-point basket has been debated for several years with the NCAA recently approving the use of the play in Southern Conference games. The play was used in the National Basketball Association last season. Standard length for the shot will be 22 feet from the center of the basket to the semi-circular line. The participation by the Southern Conference will be the first collegiate use of the three-point basket. WCU roundball fans will get to see the first three-pointers when the Cats travel to Furman December 17. PBL Convention Seven WCU students recently represented the WCU chapter of Phi Beta Lambda at the business organization's national convention in Washington, D.C. The delegation accepted two awards at the convention on behalf of the WCU chapter-a second place award for chapter reactivation and initiation of new chapters; and a Gold Seal Chapter award, which goes to chapters with the highest Phi Beta Lambda rating. Attending from WCU were Dennis Burnette of Marion. Sherry Burris of Kannapolis, Trina Cornwell of Flat Rock, Jeff Flowers of Gastonia, Ricky Goins of Lexington, Helen Hall of Spruce Pine and Steve Hopper of Charlotte. Mrs. Jennie Hunter served as advisor to the group and Alan Riddle was an alumni representative.
