  • THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN/May 1, 1980/ Page 5 Good grades pay off Thirty-one H.S. students students recieve over $35,000 Thirty-one students, including 20 from Western North Carolina, have been awarded scholarships to WCU on the basis of academic excellence. The scholarships are provided by WCU's Patrons of Quality and Western Scholars programs, both administered by the WCU Development Foundation. The programs annually award in excess of $35,000 in scholarship aid for outstanding students. Each of the Patrons of Quality scholarship recipients receives $1,000. That program is sponsored by a group of businesses, organizations and individuals who have pledged to contribute at least $1,000 annually for ten years. Students receiving Patrons of Quality scholarships for 1980-81 are John R. Barbee of Coral Springs, Fla.; Julia B. Barnwell, a Sylva-Webster High student and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Barnwell of 17 Mitchell Rd. in Sylva; Richard S. Craddock Jr., son of Dr. Richard S. Craddock of Cullowhee and a student at Camp Labofatory School; Donna L. Elders, Pisgah High student and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy L. Elders of Rt. 3 Waynesville; Tracy L.
