Students are provided a $100 per week NSF stipend while involved in the program. Both Gullion and King are physics majors at WCU. Gullion, son of Joyce B. Ferrell and William K. Guillion of Mooresville, is a 1976 graduate of Mooresville Senior High School. He is a dean's list student and received the freshman high achievement award in chemistry in 1978. CAP training It's Spring training time for members of the Civil Air Patrol. Members of the Jackson County Composite Squadron will join other members, from around the state, in a statewide search and rescue training session, Saturday. Headquarters will be located at Winkler Airport in Hendersonville. However, the personnel from Jackson County, along with members from the Swain County Squadron, will be stationed at Jackson County Airport. During this training exercise, Civil Air Patrol members will receive instruction and practice in air and ground search techniques, interrogation, and communications. This practice is one of many training sessions in which Civil Air Patrol members take part annually to prepare themselves for actual emergencies. Saturday's training comes less than a week after members of the Jackson and Swain County Squadrons participated in a recovery effort at an actual crash site. Senior members Cliff Andrews and David White— along with Cadets Bobby Stephens, Mark Thurman, Bill Bishop, James Hornsby, Andy Hornsby, Steve Howell, and Larry Elders—stopd guard, Sunday night, around a wreckage which was discovered Sunday afternoon near the Blue Ridge Parkway south of Balsam. As courses will be offered in response to student interests, students who plan to take part or who think they might be interested are especially encouraged to attend.
