There is no president, no officers, no charters. We are simply a group of people who like to play chess. The purpose of the organization is to have meetings, and the purpose of the meetings is to play chess. We are now meeting weekly at 8 p.m. on Tuesday nights in McKee 201. Experienced players and those people who don t play well but are interested in improving, are encouraged to come. After a few serious games, anyone's skill level will increase tremendously and he or she will further be able to enjoy the game, to share not only in the cool, logical thought associated with chess, but in the twisted cunning that often appears, the frequent attacks of greed balanced by spells of desperation and panic, the poker-faced deception, and--of course-trie ever present malice. Because the opinion was expressed via a cartoon does not lessen the responsibility for'accuracy, nor does it justify distortion of the truth. Sincerely, Carol Crowel Editor's Note: See reply above. Wrong again Dear Editor, I don't know who's fault it is but once again, you blew it: correct information given to one of your reporters was printed as incorrect information in the paper. The Art Students League, not the Art Dept., is sponsoring a poster contest for the Student Art Show (to be held later this spring). The entries will be judged by the body of the A.S.L. The winner of the best poster design will receive $1.00 cash from the A.S.L. and have his/her poster design printed for distribution to announce the Student Art Show. The posters not chosen can be picked up by the artists in the Art Dept. office after the winner of the competition has been announced in the Western Carolinian. No poster will be exhibited in the Student Art Show unless it is entered as a piece of art work and is entered as a piece of art work and is selected by the judges to be shown in the show. The posters must be in black and white only; any size is acceptable as long as it is not too large or too small to be reproduced; lettering is not necessary. The deadline for all entries is 5 p.m. Friday, February 29. Entries are being received in the Art Dept. office in Belk Art Building. For more information contact Robert Brown at the Art Dept., ext. 7210 or talk with Audrey Clayton, the dept. secretary. Thank you, Robert Brown President of A.S.L. We aren't pigs Dear Editor, After reading the letter last week concerning the exercise room, I feel that I must put in a word for us sexist pigs . To the lady who wrote that letter; you are not the one who has been told to hurry up with a bench or machine. The women are not treated any d.fferen lv than the men. I don't think you realize that bodybuilders have to do their exercises quickly or it will not do them any good. That is why they get a little excited ,f you take a bench or weights which they are using They don t mean to be giving you a hard time. lh?L u T- the same way and that's how I -treat them. It will just take some getting.used to on your Sincerely, Marshall Reid P.S. "Beer bloated bellies" characterize very few of us. V
