Dear Editor, We could not help but notice your editorial last week about the SGA "icebox caper," and, to say the least, it disgusts us too. The fact that Pi Kappa Phi is selling refrigerators does not bother us. Fund raising is an accepted part of campus life. We do object, though, to Phil Cates, the supposed Vice-President of SGA, handling the whole deal for his fraternity. Had he not been vice-president, he would not have known about the refrigerators and could not have bought them. As a result of Mr. Cates' arranging the purchase of the refrigerators, SGA's own refrigerator leasing has been "put on ice." Rentals went down over 400 percent for spring semester. Loads of refrigerators are just sitting, thanks once again to good old Phil! Although there may be nothing legally wrong, there is certainly an ethical question here. The vice-president of SGA(who, for some reason or another swore to uphold the constitution and the common good of all students) is putting SGA itself right out of business' We don't believe that promoting the common good of students should include using an official position to financially benefit a fraternity. We are tired of these shenanigans that dear Phil continues to pull off weekly now. I'm sure you remember the famous letter that he swore over WWCU that he didn't write, but later admitted he did. And who could forget the infamous gavel presentation set that "falsehood Phil" swore he had nothing to do with, but once again admitted. This bullshit has gone on too long. We agree with your statement that this gross abuse of the public trust has to come to an end. Perhaps the method you suggested would be best. Sincerely, Bobby Street Franklin R. KeUey Lunch with Teng A WCU professor has been invited to a luncheon with Teng Hsiao-p'ing, vice premier of the People's Republic of China, during his visit to this country. Dr. Robert H. Waddell, WCU assistant professor of marketing, will attend the luncheon today at the Peachtrec Plaza Hotel in Atlanta. Waddell received the invitation from the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and the Southern Center for International Studies, of which he is a member. The Southern Center for International Studies was established in January, 1977, as a nonprofit ft to provide training and informational programs for leaders in business, government, labor and the professions, and to sponsor research into problems of international affairs important to the South. Waddell has been active in a program of the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business to internationalize the business school curriculum, and currently works with an interdisciplinary seminar in international understanding at WCU. A graduate of Michigan State University, he holds master's and doctoral degrees from Florida Atlantic University. Waddell joined the WCU faculty in 1977.
