  • Work is a part of Navy SEPTEMBER 21 1978/THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN/Page 5 There will be a pep rally sponsored by the university cheerleaders at 7 p.m. tonight at the football field while our team is practicing. Come on out and support the Cats!! •From Page 4 Now you'll be assigned to formal pilot or NFO training. Depending upon which position you go into, this portion of training will last from a year to eighteen months. It's very trying time mentally, because you'll be in classes eight to ten hours a day and will be expected to learn at an accellerated rate. At this point, it's easier to understand the reasoning behind the mental stress you underwent during AOCS. You can not get behind in your studies at any point and expect to successfully complete training. Okay, now comes the part you've been sweating your butt off for during the last two years. In an elaborate ceremony, you and the other members of your class will receive the gold wings of a Navy pilot or NFO. At this point, you'll be assigned to a replacement air group A Dl corrects /aufry drill technique squadron, to familiarize yourself with t.ie particular type of aircraft you'll be assigned to. Eventually, you'll be assigned to a fleet squadron for your first tour of duty. That, in a nutshell, is what it's all about. Many people think it couldn't possibly be worth all the hassle, time and effort that it takes. It wouldn't be to them. But to a college graduate that wants to fly and would rather do something than besides sit behind a desk all day, it's the only way to go. From the time a candidate starts training until the time he receives his wings, the Navy ties up the equivalent of a quarter of a million dollars in his training. Naturally, Uncle Sam wants to get his money worth. So, the question is, do you feel like you'd be getting your money's worth? with a swagger ttick, below; mother marks a fallen cap.
