"The key was our fast break and defense that produced the opportunities," said Cottrell, the 33-year old former SMU assistant who replaced Fred Conley this summer in his first head coaching position. "We are happy with the win because of what it means to our program, and to a bunch of kids who didn't know what they would do together," said Cottrell. "This was actually the first varsity game for 12 of the 14 guys we had dressed." Person was the foremost of those players.
