  • Page 4 THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN THURSDAY NOVEMBER 20, 1975 editorial wiwi «MMi New look As you've perhaps noticed we've taken on a new look-better, we hope. What's the big change? It's called a Compuwriter Jr. and is manufactured by Compugraphic This very versitile piece of equipment should cut our production costs, not to mention improve the looks of the paper 100%. Our body copy will be done in san serif type from now on, except on special articles. Just think, no more Friden Justowriter breakdowns on production nights causing late publication of the paper. Halleluiah! THE CAROLINIAN is anxious to hear responses from students on the new appearance. We would appreciate feedback on this. It will probably be a couple of weeks before we're used to the machine, but when the wheels get rolling, the appearance of the paper will De what we hope is of a professional nature. %e THE y£ UtTE THIS vEE BECfiUSC THf xJUSTO WfciTCK WACHINe we WCRC HACKlMT? aor fHvTHe* issue... ^■^Vvestt^i CA^nLiMiAM Editor-in-Chief Annelle Beall Associate Editor ErikKirzinger S;aff Writers Tom Jones, Wanda Crawford, A. In the past, there has been at least an attempt to produce a paper that would raise issues that don't directly relate to University affairs, but under the new leadership, there appears to be more emphasis on advertising instead of good copy. I'm sure that the 25% sweetener that the business manager receives for advertising has no direct influence on the editor, but it is difficult to find the actual newspaper for the massive cluttering of its pages with advertisements. I realize that increased participation by the university community would help and is certainly needed, but that is more or less a pipe dream in this area. (I include myself among the ranks of the apathetic.) The editor should take a more progressive stance and promote efforts at student and faculty participation. By the way, what is that thing behind the Wachovia Bank? "The Hill" was one of the last vestiges of social contact left in this socially defunct community known as Western Carolina University, and now has fallen victim to "progress". Lee Wainscott Thanks Dear Editor, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who made the Miss Thanksgiving Womanless Pageant a success. Our thanks go out to our judges. Chancellor Robinson, Mrs. Rosa McDowell, Dr John Beegle, Dr. IIIIIIIIIIMIIIIIIIIIIIIII Temple Smith, and Dr. Doug Davis. I would also like to express my appreciation to the many girls, too numerous to mention here, who aided the contestants in preparing for the pageant at rehearsal and the night of the pageant. Thank you also to the organizations who entered contestants. Without you there could have been no pageant. And last but not least, a very special thanks to the students of Western Carolina, who made the night so beneficial to the people of Jackson County. It is my sincere wish that you enjoyed the pageant as much as we, the Brothers of Aloha Phi Omega enjoyed producing it. Tom Vernon Director Womanless Pageant.
