Discriminates Against Women" we were incorrect in reporting that the health and physical education department shows discrimination. Betty Peele, director of women's athletic's, saidFriday that the WCl' women's volleyball team will be able to go to regional play-offs. For this trip the team is being funded by a special budget, not out of the $5000 allotted to women's sports. Culmination Dear Editor: This is hopefully the culminating letter of the letters that have monopolized the Western Carolinian for the past three or four editions. I'm Donald Patton, and I wish to say a thing or two. There comes a time in every man's life when he must stand up for what he believes and thinks is right; and in some cases what is right. Some men forfeit this opportunity; others take advantage of it. I took advantage of this so-called opportunity; thus failed to be judicious to some. To others who failed to take a stand, I was perfectly just> I would like to say thanks to those who have opposed me. In opposing what I have written, we see that men are different, and they don't think alike. Thank you for taking a stand in an attempt to defend what you thought was right It isn't everyday a person is willing to go against society, most people follow the thinking of society whether right or wrong. Because a man takes a stand against society doesn't necessarily dictate that he's a failure, but simply that he's a man because he's willing to stand up for what he believes in. He's not one of the many purpose). Whether they agree or disagree, is entirely an individual thing. Had I not gotten any response I would have believed more fully that society is willing to take things for face value. I have no ill feelings toward the individuals. I'm willing to defend myself if the opportunity presents itself (in open de- individuals who sits back and watch others fight, and hopes to benefit from the outcome. To be criticized simply implies that there is someone reading what I wrote (which was my bate). We're humans, not barbarians or animals; thus, we should be able to discuss the faults of society in hopes of dissolving them. We can use words and logic instead of fist and weapons. This is what has held man back through the years- he has gone on the pretense that a gun and knife could readily solve his problems. A very thin line can be drawn between man and animal, and it's up to us to decide which way we want to travel. Sincerely, Donald Patton "Potemkin' Review useful explanatory material at the beginning and end to help foreign audiences with the historical context, and there are a number of added titles which by and large help to clarify parts of the action. An objection- able anti-semitic slogan has been deleted, but in such a way that I think either the editor misunderstood the scene, or I did. (I think it was shouted by one of the villians to confuse the crowd.) The titles of the five sections of the film ("Men and Maggots", "Dra- .... FROM Page 1 ma on the Quarterdeck", "The Odessa Steps," etc.) have been omitted, which makes the film seem less old-fashioned, butal- so makes its organization less clear. And a musical score has been dubbed in, in true Russian romantic style, which gives your ears something to do without distracting attention particularly from the film. Most versions available in the U.S. are badly cut: This version though not untouched gives considerably more of Eisenstein's art than any I've seen before.
