  • Wf M rmsrvis ►♦♦♦♦< (DM TOM Southern Africa Meet The Speakers: Several well-known speakers comprise the agenda for the Symposium on Southern Africa this Thursday and Friday. First, Mr, George Houser, Executive Secretary for the American Committee on Africa, actively involved in the issue of Southern African affairs has written several articles, including 'The Polaroid Approach to South Africa.' Next Mr. Dennis Brutus, Professor of African Literature al Northwestern University, was born in Southern Rhodesia of South African parents., He participated in many anti- apartheid campaigns, particularly concerned with sports. The South African Government eventually banned him from public meetings and from his writings being published in South Africa. He is also a representative of the International Defense and Aid Fund for Southern Africa at the United Nations. Rev. Isaac Bivens holds degrees from West Virginia State College and Boston University. He was appointed in 1970 to the position of Assistant General Secretary in the Division of Global Ministries for the United Methodist Church, He .has spent several months itinerating through Africa. He has long been a member of the Association of Higher Education. Bivens has also served as Chairman of a committee of college administrators working with HEW in Atlanta.. Also participating will be Paul Irish, a senior at Oberlin College. Irish has served as former Issue Chairman on Southern Africa for CIRUNA National, as well as working for the Council for Christian Social Action, directly concerned with the affairs of Southern Africa. He is a member of the College Investment Advisory Committee at Oberlin and is a regular contributing writer to Southern Africa magazine. AConsultant to the House of Representatives for African Affairs, Mrs. Goler Butcher will speak on Friday afternoon. A SCHEDULE REV. ISAAC BIVENS MR. KENNETH HANSEN SEN. GALE McGEE flamboyant and dynamic speaker Butcher serves as an African Advisor to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Rev. Donald Morton, formerly of South Africa, will address delegates on Thursday afternoon. He is now associated with-the Ecumenical Commission on Southern Africa, a New York organization which is concerned with the role of the church in African affairs. Morton was previously a minister in South Africa and is the author of several works, including 'Have Things Reaily Gotten Better?*, an article which examines basic conditions in South Africa, Mr. Simeon Adekson, Second Secretary to the Ambassador of Nigeria; Mr. Kwame Bro- bey, Minister Counsellor, Embassy of Ghana; a representative from the Kenya Embassy and a member of the Embassy of Zambia, will all speak on behalf of their African nations. The complex situation in Southern Africa has had a great impact upon other nations in Africa. Thus the aforementioned spokesman will present the position of their own individual countries. REV. DONALD MORTON On corporate involvement, Mr. Reed Kramer will make a presentation, Kramer has traveled two years In Africa investigating and observing the role of American business firms. He has worked for the Southern African Committee and is currently heading this office's new branch in Durham,, Kramer has also made significant contributions to numerous publications such as Southern Africa magazine. The Keynote Address for the Symposium will be delivered by Senator Gale McGee,Wyoming. McGee enjoys the reputation as 'one of the Senate's most brilliant speakers', as put by Esquire magazine. He earned a Ph.D. at the Univ. of Chicago and later taught at the University of Wyoming.
