Senator's response to editorial FROM Page 5. . . „ to let a candidate talk about his positions—all his popularity- all his supposed progress without questioning his clain without questioning his claims, then Student Government will never be a truly meaningful organization—but a mere playpen for loose children. I have stated in weeks past work—not past offices. There is more to student government than rock and roll issues and Tenure denial „ . . .FROM Page 1 higher education standards in the United States. These do not require cause to be stated when a probationary appointment is discontinued The tenure policy was in effect at the time Mr. Appleton entered University service and was a circumstance of his employment. The policy has been followed." John F. Henning, Student Body President, stated, "The present structure, designed to improve the academic level of the institution creates vague criteria for selection and retainment of faculty in certain respects. Certainly, those members who feel that they have been unfairly treated have the right to express this dissatisfaction. We hope that this demonstration will continue to be peaceful and that others will respect their right to march. I hope we will have no incidents where students try to obstruct these peaceful expressions." Tuesday night Appleton's supporters discussed plans for picketing Bird Building throughout Spring Quarter. They also discussed possibilities of calling in national and regional news media. Student nurses The Student Nurses Association of North Carolina Convention was held in Raleigh on March 6 and 7. Where is a student on the Board of Trus» tees and where is aprofessional course evaluation? These are issues. Rise to them!!!!!!!!! I ask you to look into yourself and decide now to go to your Senator and ask him what he is doing for you. Listen and then judge carefully. It is your right and responsibility to demand action from your Senator. It is late in the year now — but this spring look hard—it's up to YOU. As a Senator I can look at Mr. Whitten's article and see the truth in it. I feel, however, that as in any case it is easy to destroy in writing the progress that has taken the Student Government months to plan and carry out, Mr. Whitten was saying that there is a desperate situation existing in the Senate and that it has been there far too long.
