"We have some outstanding freshmen on the team this season, as well as seven returning lettermen. Our biggest improvement should be in the lower weight classes," Setzer said. "Although we are improved, we have added some fine wrestling schools to our schedule and naturally it will be tougher. Both the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Appalachian State are real tough opponents," he added. Back this season are letter- men Langdon Kerr, Larry Hales, Barry Hayes, Steve Nelson, Ron Keller, David Baker, and Ron Cobbledick. Cobbledick, 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, was undefeated as a WCU heavyweight last season. He won four of his five matches by pins and the others by decision. 'He's a real fine wrestler and can be expected to lead the team," Setzer said. Among the outstanding freshmen are two state champions, the Western North Carolina Champion, and two North Carolina Junior Olympics Champions. Wayne Talley from Charlotte was the N. C. State Champion in the 134 pound class and C. E. McCartha of Atlanta, Ga. was the Georgia State Heavyweight Champion. Franklin Miller who will be wrestling in the 177-pound class was last year's Western North Carolina Champion and was voted the outstanding athlete at North Rowan High School in Salisbury. Doug Barrier and Bo RusseU were both Junior Olympic Champions. Barrier wrestles in the 167-pound class and Russell in the 134-pound class. Other outstanding freshmen according to Setzer are Lyman Fisher, and Edward Cnenvey. It should be an exciting season for one of the newer WCU sports. Wrestling Is an exciting spectator sport and WCU fans should be in for plenty of action when the Cat grapplers are at home. The home opener will be in Reid Gym on January 24 against Elizabeth City State College.
