  • Page 8 THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN Thursday, February 20,1969 News Briefs Conference To Be Held The Mid-Year Pre-Session Conference will be held Saturday, March 8, 1969 in the Blue Room of the University Center from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. This conference will review the progress of recommendations and suggestions of the 34th Annual Pre-Session Conference. This conference is open to students who attended the conference this past fall plus any other interested students. Pre-Registration The Committee for Academic Affairs has announced that pre- registration for Spring Quarter may be completed on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 20 and 21 for students who could not participate on the regular days. These students should see their advisors immediately and make an appointment topre-register. Karate Attention Students: Tuesday February 25th, 8:00 pm to New Lights For Campus Charles Sutton, President of the Student Body, recently announced that he has received a memo from Dr. Alex Pow, President of WCU, and Mr. James Kirkpatrick, Business Manager, in response to his concern over the matter of inadequate lighting on campus. Dr. Pow stated, "This has been a matter of great concern to us and the University Administration for sometime. We now have $100,000. available for rephasing the electrical system and relighting part of the campus. Contacts have been executed for this work." Mr. Kirkpatrick stated that the work will begin around April 5th. Also, the State Advisory Budget Commission has honored the University's request for $250,000 additional money to improve the electrical system on campus. This request must first be approved by action of the General Assembly. 10:00 pm a KARATE Exhibition at the University Center. Board Breaking, Brick Smashing, Breathtaking events. Employment Seniors interested in employment opportunities in North Carolina State Government will be able to talk with a representative from the State Personnel Department on March 5. Arrangements for the interview are to be made with the College Placement Office. One should report there to establish a specific appointment on this date. State Government employs over 39,000 persons in 1,400 different types of jobs. Business, accounting, rehabilitation, social work, laboratory science, education, computer programming, and the natural and physical sciences are only a few of the possible employment areas. Brochures, which fully describe the employment opportunities, are available at the Placement Office. In ad dition, State Government offers its employees a continued education program, excellent possibilities for advancement, paid vacation and holidays, sick leave, and other liberal employee benefits. Ping Pong Anyone who has signed up for the Ping Pong Tournament and has not played off their first match, please come by the Assistant Director's office and schedule their match, as these have to be played by Friday, Feb. 21. One-Acts The Little Theatre presents a program of four student directed one-act plays tonight . Curtain will open at 7:30 p.m. The program is open to the public with no charge for admission. The plays are directed by members of Miss Niggli's advanced directing class with cast members chosen in open tryouts from the student body and faculty.
