The WCU girls came through with an easy 59-42 victory over High Point on Friday afternoon. WRA grabbed an early lead over High Point's Female cagers and never let them pose a serious scoring threat throughout the entire game. Belinda Austin was WRA's top scorer with 13points, trailed by Jane McClees and Marilyn Sheets with ten points each. Having one of the best winning records of any team on campus, WRA continued to win as they took on Winthrop College on Saturday. Western's girls emerged with a 49-38 victory, their fourth in a row this season. It was a close gam3 the first half with both teams fighting to take the lead. However, Western began to open a gap aided by the shooting of Marilyn Sheets who netted a total of 19 points. Belinda Austin was second high scorer with 11 points. Catawba entertains Guilford Thursday night, the first of two home games for Catawba, as Uiey will face High Point Saturday night in another conference clash. Elon al Presbyterian and Newberry at I'feiffer round out the pro-weekendactiv itv as they meet Thursday (■uilford entertains non-conference Roanoke on their homo court lo lead off Saturday's activities Presbyterian travels to New berry Saturday night in a con ference lilt while Lenoir Rhyne travels to Boone lo face Appalachian state University on their home court. Cats Over power L-R, 69-67 By KF\ BALL The Cats came out of a close one, 69-67, over the Bears of Lenoir Rhyne on Uie Bears' home court Wednesday night. It was a nip and tuck game the first half with Uie lead changing back and forUi. Sam Sapp got inU) early foul trouble and didn't get to finish the first half. However, Henry dropped in a couple of field goals to send Western inUi Undressing room with a 40-35 lead 'The Cats Came roaring back early in the second .half and built their lead up to nine points, the largest lead by cither side during the game. Lenoir Rhyne came fighting back though, to lie the game up despite the efforts of Western to stay ahead. With Li minutes left to play the Hears moved ahead again 49-47, and went on Ui gain a six-|xiint lead Now, with Hob Thompson in foul trouble, Western's Five were having to play a catch-up ball game With six minutes left in Uie game, Henry dropped a long one in regaining the lead for the Cats at 62-61, Il turned into a see- saw battle until, with less than two minutes CATS IN ACTION a desperate defensive game Uie last 60 seconds, trying to keep LR from tieing it up. With 15 seconds left Wells took a shot for the Bears and missed Westernreboundedana the game ended 69-67 in favor of the Cats. This was their third conference win in a row. Henry ha d the best game he ever played on Uie LR court last night He is usually plagued with fouls on the Bears' court, left, Henry put the score at 69-67, The Catamounts played but had only two personals last night, Henry was the game's high scorer with 30 points. Whitman netted 14 points, and Bob Thompson, who fouled out wiUi four minutes left to play, had nine. Western Carolina is now 6-4 in the Carolinas Conference. KA's Capture Fraternity League Championship Kappa Alpha picked up another intramural championship as Ihe.v rolled over Theta Xi, 44-:iS, Monday night. This victory earned the KA's Uie Fraternity League Championship crown. Red 'Thompson was top scorer for KA with 11 points and was trailed by Cary Elving- ton and Rob Smith with 10points each. Hon Bcddingfield led Theta Xi with 10 points. 'The National League Champion went to third Reynolds South who put down Day Students, 61- 45. Itobmson led Reynolds with 1H points. Dodson and Stanley- picked up 14 points each for Uie day Students. Also, on Monday night first and second Reynolds topped first an second Madison in a very close 41-39 game. Richard Stewart, Mike FaircloUi, and John Moose were top scorers. In American League action the Dillard House was given a 43-37 loss as third Moore South emerged with Uie league crown.: Wayne Shelton and Clay Eaton were top men for Dillard House. Micky Plyler and Doug Huffman led moore in points. The Fraternity League got back into action again on Tuesday night. Pi Kappa Phi handed Alpha Phi Omega a 36-26 defeat. Tom Radford netted 16 points for Pi Kappa Phi as Tony Johnson got 10 points for Alpha Phi Omega. Later on Tuesday, first and second Renolds out-played the Day Students in a 52-32 game giving them the National League runner-up position. Richard Baldwin and Don Mauldin were leading scorers. The American League saw Moore Terrace and third Robertson back in action on Tues= day. Edwards, with 19 points, led Moore Terrace to a 29-21 victory. The two top teams from each league will go into Uie tournament for All-Campus Championship.
