  • 1967 Christmas Edition THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN Page 17 Lewis, Lomax, Powers, Stanley 4 Grinders Tapped In Post Season Honors Four Catamount grid stars have won berths on Uie Carolinas Conference all-conference team and three of them have also been named to the NAIA All-District 26 team, Hononored for an outstanding seasonal performance in the Carolinas Confernce were Don Powers, defensive end from Lincolnton, N, C; Bill Stanley, tackle from Roanoke Rapids, N. C; Ken Lewis, tackle from East Point, Ga.; and David Lomax, junior from Thomas- ville, N. C. Lomax was named to Uie conference offensive team while the three senior linemen were placed on the defensive unit Powers, Lewis, and Stanley also were included in the All- District 26 team which is named annually by the National Association of Inter collegiate Athletics. Two of the three Catamount captain, Lewis and Powers, a= gain were named to the defen= sive line but Stanley, a versatile performer, was honored as an offensive interior lineman. Stanley, Lewis, Powers, Lomax ....SUPER CATS For Powers and Lewis, such honors are not new. Powers repeated his performance of 1966 when he made both teams. Lewis retained his place on the 1966 All-Conference team. Despite his lack of size, Powers has manned the defen sive end spot on Uie Cat line for Uie past three seasons. Catamount coach Dan liobin son tagged Powers as a motivated and dedicated athlete and and "outstanding player." Ken Picked For Shrine Bowl Ken Lewis, All-Carolinas Conference and All District 26 tackle, was selected to play in the first annual Sudan Temple Ail-Star Bowl in Raleigh. The game, played on Nov. 25, was between two teams of col legiate seniors from North Carolina colleges and universities. The East All-stars won the game 10-7 over the West All-stars on a field goal by Elon's Perry Williams. Proceeds from the contest were contributed to the Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children in Greenville, S. C. Lewis was a two way stand out in the Western line during the past season and served as one of Uie Catamounts Trl Captains, Henry Logan Named "Top Pro Prospect" *s&j9xyi Western Carolina University's All-American Henry Logan can add another honor to his seemingly endless list of achievements. Logan was recently picked by the Editors of Inside Basketball, a nationally known sports publication, as one of the top pro-basketball prospects Uiis season, The globe trotting Asheville senior is now in his final season at Western and is considered a sure bet to repeat his past NAIA All American honors. During his Western career, Logan has been selected as an All-American three times. He has also been chosen for Uie All-Conference and AH-District 26 teams three times. During Uie past two years, Uie "Asheville Flash" was an all- state selection. Last year, he was named as the Carolinas Conference Most Valuable Player, He has also been named Uie MVP of the Quincy Holiday Tournament (1966), th: SpindalcTournament (1966), and the Western Carolina Holiday Classic (196(i,1967), He has twice been a member of the Pan American team and last summer st;irred in the Little World Tourney in Barcelona, Spain.
