  • Page 10 THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN 1967 Christmas Edjt ion Smoker Kicks Off An Enthusiastic Formal Rush Tau Kappa Epsilon Pi Kappa Phi The Social Fraternities of Western Carolina begin their winter quarter rush Nov. 30 with the Interfraternity Council Smoker in Oodson Cafeteria, Attendance was greater than expected with over 125 men showing interest in fraternities. This helped to encourage Greek spirit and provide for better competition during formal rush. Each fraternity was allowed an area of the cafeteria for a small display to represent their fraternity. These displays showed a great deal of work on the part of each fraternity. Along with the displays each fraternity had its IFC representatives present to explain their display and meet the winter quarter rushces,, IFC rush committee chairman Bill Biggers commented that he was very pleased with the displays and the interest shown by freshmen toward fiat ernities here at Western Carolina. All of this will contri Inite to make this a most successful rush for all of the fraternities. The Interfraternity Council President Tom Roberts welcomed the ruShces and explained the purpose of the smoker. Dean Davis, the featured speaker spoke on the role of a fraternity man in general on the Western Carolina campus. A film produced by the National Interfraternity Conference "What is Your Advice" was shown. The film showed the role of fraternities on the campuses of today and how the can contribute to Univcrsi' life. Following the film rcfresn- ments were served and the rushees were allowed to visit the various displays of the fraternities. Formal rush extended from the end of the smoker till -Saturday, IX-c. 9. Sunday and Monday were days of silence with bids being turned in on Monday. In an effort to improve their role on campus, bids were handled for the first time by the Interfraternity Council instead of the dean of men. Pi Kappa Alpha Delta Siqma Phi Kappa Alpha
