Schedule Is Given Six games are scheduled in the Carolinas Conference tomorrow, with Ellon at Western Carolina and Guilford at Newberry the only league contests. Elsewhere, Wofford is at Appalachian, Frederick at Catawba, Lenoir Rhyne at Southwestern Louisiana, and Presbyterian at Troy. The outlook: Frederick at Catawba: Frederick defeated the Carolinas' cellar team, Newberry, last week 27-6, but Catawba should offer more resistance. The Indians led Elon 17-0 after three quarters, but finally lost 22-17. They should be able to contain Frederick, however, for a fairly easy 28-0 victory. Wofford at Appalachian: A real toughie, this game could go either way. Wofford holds victories over Lenoir Rhyne, Presbyterian, and Newberry this year, while Appalachian has been up and down at times. Taking a chance, the pick is the Apps by 17-14. Presbyterian at Troy: Presbyterian should bounce back after last week's 42-0 trouncing at Tampa and defeat Troy, perhaps 21-7. Lenoir Rhyne at Southwestern Louisiana: Lenoir Rhyne saw its perfect conference record fall at the hands of Western Carolina last week, and this week the Bears should face even stiffer competition in nationally - ranked Southwestern Louisana. The Bears will probably return home this weekend on the short end of a 35-14 score. Guilford at Newberry: Newberry appears headed toward a wlnless season after dropping last week's game to Frederick. Following Guilford, only Western Carolina, Elon, and Presbyterian remain on the Indians' schedule, and the outlook for a victory over one of these teams looks doubtful. Newberry should, therefore, be up for tomorrow's game, but chances are that Guilford will emerge the victor. The Quakers have displayed some fine football this year and should defeat Newberry 24-6. Elon at Western Carolina: Western Carolina entertains nationally eighth-ranked Elon in its final home game of the season tomorrow night. The Cats have displayed a strong defense in their last three games and may give the Christians one of their toughest battles of the season. Elon has a 3-0 conference slate and is 6-0 overall and has pretty well wrapped up the conference championship. Tomorrow's game should be a real test for the Catamount defense, as quarterback Ed Whe- less has led the league in passing almost every week. Elon appears to have too much strength for Western and will be a 21- 14 favorite. Last week's result: 2 right, 4 wrong Season's record: 22 right, 12 wrong Tournament Results Are Announced In Women's Intramural Field Hockey The final two games of the women's intramural field hockey tournament were played last week. The Grease Monkeys defeated the Dill Pickles 1-0, with Marilyn McNeely Scoring the only goal. In the second game, Jeannie Bumgarner and Laurie Liberatore each scored a goal for the Hustlers to defeat the Ivory Tower Spastics 2-0. After these games, three teams were tied for first place in the tournament. They were the Radishes, the Hustlers, and the Ivory Tower Spastics. The Hustlers beat the Radishes 1-0, with Jeannie Bumgarner scoring the Sunday, Monday, Tuesday — November 1, 2, 3 goal. In the second game, The Spastics defeated the Radishes by yardage. Then, in the final game, the Hustlers secured first place when Laurie Liberatore scored for them and they won 1-0. The finals were played on October 26. The Ivory Tower Spastics and the Green Gophers, third and fourth place respectively, played in the first game, with the ITS defeating the Gophers 1-0. In the championship game, the Hustlers defeated the Hitchhikers by yardage only. No goals were scored. Players Win Honors As Standouts "Back of the Week" honor goes to James (Red) Seay, a 192 pound senior from Franklin, N. C. Seay, one of the finest runners of the conference, has proven to be a great asset to the Cats so far during the season. He is fast and deceptive. Seay is one of the co-captains for the W.C.C. gridiron team. Tommy Rogers, a 6' 2", 210- pound freshman from Raeford, N. C, was selected "Lineman of the Week" It was said that he played the best defensive game against the single wing since Denny Williams in 1958. Both players were instrumental in the victory, but congratulations are due the entire team for its outstanding performance.
