  • Monday, Oct. 9, 1950 THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN * Page 3 Men's Intramural Plans In Sports Announced The men's intramural program for the fall quarter will probably consist of the following activities; Tag Football, Tennis, and Ping Pong. Neither champion is on hand to defend his title in Tennis or Ping Pong this year, and as Tag Football 'was not on the intramural curriculum last fall, a new champion is ascertained in all activities for the fall session. The Tennis tournament opened Tuesday, September 2, and was followed by Tag Football and Ping Pong in that order. The fall activities will conclude with the beginning of the winter quarter, for which session a new list of activities is scheduled. The following team managers have thus far been elected: First Madison—James Mayfield, Second Madison-Connor Stiles, Third Madison—Jim Hullender. Fourth Madison — J. E. Pardue, Second Robertson-Bob Talion, and Third Robertson-Buck Page. These men will be the skippers in the team sports, which are really the backbone of any successful intramural program. Up The Steps To Classes MORE ABOUT Deadline (Continued from Page 1) listed under the Armed Forces Voluntary Recruitment Act (between October 6, 1945, and October 5, 194G) are not bound by the entry or completion deadlines. Instead, they have four years from the end of that enlistment or reenlistnvnt period in which to start, and nine years from that time in which to complete their courses of training. In the French Parliament, one of the Deputies, making a speech urging the improvement of the legal status of women, cried: "After all, there is very little difference between men and women!" The entire Chamber of Deputies rose and shouted as one man: "Viva la difference!" The number of times the average man says "no" to temptation is once weakly. He who laughs last just saw the joke. When you are broiling steak or chops for dinner choose vegetables that can be broiled along with the meat. This saves time, dish washing and fuel. L_ Tests of the Graduate Record Examination, required of applicants lor admission to a number of graduate schools, will be administered at examination centers throughout the country four times in the coming year, Educational Testing Service has announced. During 1949-1950 nearly 13,000 students took the GRE in partial fulfillment of admission requirements of graduate schools which prescribed it. This fall candidates may take the GRE on Friday and Saturday, October 27 and 28; in 1951, the dates are February 2 and 3, May 4 and 5, August 3 and 4. Since the GRE is not required by all graduate schools, ETS advises each student to inquire of his prospective school whether or not he is expected to take the test and, if so, on which dates. The GRE tests offered in these nationwide programs include a test of general scholastic ability, tests of general achievempnt in six broad fields of undergraduate study, and advanced level tests of achievement in various subject matter fields. According tq ETS, candidates are permitted several options among these tests. Application forms and a Bulletin of Information, which provides details of registration and administration, as yvell as sample questions, may be obtained from advisers or directly from Educational Testing Service, P. O. Box 592, Princeton, N. J., or P. O. Box 9896, Los Feliz Station, Los Angeles 27. California. A completed application must reach the ETS office at least two weeks before the date of the administration for which the candidate is applying.
