Relations' Club On September 27, the International Relations Club held its first meeting and completed tentative plans of the organization for the current year. Sponsored by Dr. Taylor and Mr. Farley, the IRC is one of the more serious groups of the campus, witi the activities of its members primarily and principally concerned with the study of economic and political problems against the background of particular psychological and sociological conditions existing in the various nations of the world today. During the last year, the problems of establishing international understanding and lasting peace have become more apparent than ever before, and the importance of the work of such groups as the IRC has become proportionately clear. One meeting of the club is held each month. These meetings may be open discussions, lectures or Wesley Club The Wesley Club is an organization for girls only, and is sponsored by Miss Hammond. A girl of any religious denomination may join. The meetings are usually held in Robertson parlor. The officers were elected last spring, and are as follows: President Edna Saunooke Vice-President—Virginia Kilpatrick Sec.-Treas Janet Robeson The meetings are held usually in the first week of each month. The vice-president is the chairman of the programs, and has the privilege of appointing various members to participate. A meeting of the former members was held in September to plan the program for the new members. The first official meeting was held the 6th of October at 7:30. All new girls are invited to join. Wesley Foundation The purpose of the Wesley Foundation is to furnish an opportunity for religious experience so as to develop a well-balanced personality. The officers of the club are: president, David Walker, Webster Groves, Mo.; vice-president, Martha Ellen Lynch, Moores- ville; sec.-treasurer, Jean Hill, Sanfield. The plans for the program are as follows: 6:30 supper (bag lunch) and business meeting; 7:30 Vespers; 8:00 recreation. During the recreation period there will be crafts, several work shops such as music and dramatics, and folk games. All those interested in any group are urged to attend and participate. Those interested groups will be modified according to the wishes of the group. debates by members, or special guests may be asked to speak on any of various international situations or conditions. Unplanned discussion and exchange of opinions are a continuous part of the programs; and in this friendly, informal way, members of the club learn to think of all nations in terms of what they signify to each other in their several political, economic and social structures. The next meeting of the group is tentatively scheduled for October 25, 7:30 in Robertson Hall. Mr. Farley, of the Social Sciences Department, will address the club at that time on the subject of the current Berlin Crisis. The student body and faculty members are cordially invited to attend this particular meeting. DLUE RIBBON SHOE SHOP All work guaranteed. Alpha Phi Sigma The Zeta chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma, a national honorary scholastic fraternity, was organized in 1930-31 for the purpose of promoting and maintaining high scholarship among the students of Western Carolina. To become a member of Alpha Phi Sigma a student must make an academic standing of B+ for three consecutive quarters at Western Carolina Teachers college. In brief, the objectives of the organization are: to reward scholarship and solid achievement in high school; to encourage the same in college; to create a campus group who will strive for the development of latent possibilities among students generally; to induce potential leaders to enter the teaching profession. The present officers of Alpha Phi Sigma are Joe Pryor, president; Clyde Pressley, vice- president; and Donald Tomberlin, secretary. Mr. Curtis is sponsoring the organization. Miss Alice Benton, national president, and Miss Kathleen Davis, national secretary, are both members of the local chapter. Mrs. Grogan is teaching at Glen- ville High School, while Mr. Grogan is a junior at Western Carolina. Science Club The purposes of the Science club are to create a scientific attitude on the campus, to enrich the various science courses, and to further develop the individual toward doing individual scientific work. The officers of the Science club are: Yolanda A. Taylor, president; Mr. and Mrs. J. Guy Padgett, of Hayesville, announce the marriage of their daughter, Clara, to James W.
