  • NOVEMBER 15. 1934 THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN PAGE 3 The Sport Editor Gossips AWSON ALLEN- brain for subj< so here they a At the Hon there was on Sports h.ditor Times, refere« few days latei appeared is been racking his ts to ,-ossip about, .-Coming game beam! the Catamounts A. 1.. Bannister, of the Asheville ng the game. A the l'olowing item column, "My own Saturday occupation was a whistle- tooting jaunt to Cullowwe where C. C. Poindexter's native team celebrated a Home-coming Day program by defeating an older and a seemingly more experienced Milligan outfit. After a Mil'igan man ran through the entire Catamount team with the exception of Paul Schachner on the first offensive play of the game, it looked as though the Bisons foi the the home And, too many gum Carolinians. But wl team dug their cleats in near t own goal line, as they did three or four occasions, the ir cate double and triple passes the visitors went for with the same Schach kickmg and running i fashion, the Catamou scratched their wav to victory." This bit of publici along with another article in tl same column about the native ne sonel of the team is worth lookii at a second time. It might be said in all fairne to all concerned that the gan with Alabama Teachers, Monda November 5th, was about as poor an exhibition of football as has been put on at Cullowhee for some time. The Catamounts made a wonderful showing in the second period, but that was all. Somehow or other they could not get going the rest of the time ami the fellow teachers from Alabama clearly outplayed the Catamounts the rest of the way. On Saturday, the tenth, the Catamounts found the Guilford "Quakers" on the move and '"were swamped by the largest score of the season, thirteen points. The spirit does move those boys and right early in this case. After all is said Cullowhee is slowly but surely coming to the top in athletics. A little more than two years ago when our coach North j succeeded four year colleges in this section, everybody threw up their hands, but vision always precedes accomplishment This year has demonstrated the fact that" the impossible can be done.
