Western Carolinian announcement for Lesbian and Gay Rap Group

  • This meeting notice for the Lesbian and Gay Rap Group appears in the Classified section of the February 12, 19, and 26, 1987 issues of the Western Carolinian. The Rap Group existed alongside Lavender Bridges and was geared toward emotional support for lesbians and gay men. The notice states they will hold a discussion group on Wednesdays with a professional counselor present and provides a PO box to write to for more information. Lavender Bridges, an anonymously founded student organization open to all individuals, aimed to promote awareness of lesbian and gay lifestyle, provide lesbian and gay resources, and increase communication with all students and community members. The first organizational meeting took place October 10, 1985 and was officially recognized by the office of Student Development on December 13, 1985. The last mention of the group appeared in the October 10, 1991 issue of the Western Carolinian.
  • LESBIAN/GAY RAP GROUP WEDNESDAY EVENINGS 6:30 - 7:30 pm. A discussion group for lesbian women and gay men providing a safe, confidential setting for gay people to discuss common concerns and issues. Topics range from coping with homophobia, coming out to family and friends, dealing with family conflicts, lifestyles, relationships, meeting other gay people, isolation, loneliness, and m much more.
