  • THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN FALL SPECIAL EDITION Traffic & Security The do's and don't's of parking Persons who intend to drive automobiles on campus will have a 48 hour .grace period from their first scheduled class in which to register their vehicles for the coming semester, according to WCU's Traffic and Security office. They are now located in the New Administration Building, Room 131. Beginning on August 17 and running through each registration period on the following days, there will be a representative from Traffic and Security at the University Center between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4p.m. There will also be a representative present on August 20 and 21 at Buchanon, Albright-Benton and Scott Dorm lobbies between the hours of 7p.m. and 9p.m. Students may also register their vehicles by going by Traffic and Security during regular business hours (8a.m.-4p.m.). Although tickets will not be written for no registration until after the 48 hour grace period, there will be tickets written prior to this time for illegal parking on the grass, on sidewalks, in faculty lots and for using last vear's stickers. Those Mopeds which are required to register with the Department of Motor Vehicles and bear a state license plate, will be required to obtain a campus parking^ permit. Those Mopeds which are not required to bear a state license plate, will not be required to have a campus permit, but must park only in areas designated for bicycles and must use the racks provided. Mopeds and bicycles which are parked on sidewalks, grassed areas and at building entrances are subject to impoundment with the associated fees and penalties. The Traffic and Security office warns all persons that the biggest problem on campus is theft. For this reason, an engraving tool is available for check-out from their office. "We are glad to loan it to the students to mark their stereos, bikes, etc. with," said a spokesman for the office and advises students ' 'to store tape playes and tape deck's that are easTly removed in their trunks." Forms are available in the office for identifying engraved articles and to whom they belong. The items should be marked with the owner's driver's license or social security number. The security office is open form 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is closed on weekends. Officers, however, are duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Bicycle racks are located at the following locations: All residence halls, McKee (SE end of building), Reid Gym, Hunter Library, UC, Music/English lot, McKee '(NW corner near Hoey), Killian (across from building by wall). Belk (N side on second level off Belk Drive).; Stillwell; Administration Building; Mountian Heritage Center; Moore Hall/Joyner/Old Student Union.
