Hnl.nmhr. , CULLOWHEE, Jan. 5 —Lenoir Rhyne's three big guns- Ortmyer, Raeford Wells and Dickie James—blazed away for 72 points here tonight as they paced the Bears to a 93-74 North State Conference victory over the Western Carolina Catamounts. Western Carolina, handicapped in the department and sadly missing the work of 6-6 center Bill Wilson who was forced to quit the squad because of scholastic difficulties, waged a tight battle with the Bears during the first half. The Catamounts trailed, 45- 42, at the intermission. It was principally the work of forward Tommy Williams that kept the Catamounts alive in the first half. He accounted for 14 of his 18 points in that period. ' But in the second half, th( Catamounts lost their basket eyes, scoring only 11 points in the first 10 minutes of the period. Lenoir Rhyne's height advantage was paying off, too. The Bears controlled the boards and completely bottled up Tony Migialo and Bill Bowen, who had paced the Western Carolina scoring until this game. Ortmyer, the Bears' 6-8 forward, was high scorer of the night with 32 points. Raeford Wells, 6-6 center, and Dickie James, freshman flash, each added 20 points for the Bears. Williams was Western Carolina . top scorer. He was followed bv Harris Pryor and Ronnie Swartzel with 11 and 10 points, respectively. The Western Carolina freshmen took a 59-40 victory over Sylva High School in the preliminary. I.ENOIR-BHYNE (93) FG FT rF ■ n. James, g T. Wells. x W. CAROLINA (1 Miemnl- • Mieiai Bowen.
