  • WCC To Graduate 122 Tomorroiv CULLOWHEE. May 26-West- ern Carolina College will confer bachelor's degrees on 122 stu- denls and master' degrees en 22 others at the traditional Commencement Monday. The program will open at 10 a. m. The Commencement speaker will be Reuben B. Robertson of Asheville, board chairman and ol The Champion Pa- per and Fibre Co. The college will award honor- : will receive the degree of Doctor of Laws. Miss Camp, retired veteran educator, will he presented the Doctor ot Education degree in recognition of her years of service. Robertson, a native of Cincinnati. Ohio, spent most of his adult life in Western North Carolina. In 1950, he was selected "Man Of The South," and in 1054 received the Conservation Award of the National Forestry Association. He is a former chairman of I h c Western Carolina College board of trustees, and one of the men's dormitories has been named in his honor. „- - Miss Camp, erford County, was a teacher or a supervisor in public schools for 15 years and director of student teaching at Western Carolina College for 23. During the program also, a portrait of WCC's president, W. E. Bird will be unveiled. Alumni, faculty and friends of the college subscribed funds for the painting of the portrait which will be presented to the college. Hans Hanson, formerly of Asheville and now of Washing- Ion, D. C, was commissioned several months ago to paint the portrait. Hanson who has won considerable acclaim as a portrait painter is a graduate of Western Carolina College in the class of 1941. Presentation of the portrait will be made by Miss Alice Benton fcr the faculty and by Tom Mallonee, president of the alumni association, for that group. Philip Woollcott of Asheville, chairman of the board of trustees, will accept the portrait for the college and the official board. The unveiling will be by President Bird's daughters, Mrs. Anne Bird Engman of Johnson City. Tenn., and Mrs. Helen Bird Foreman of Charlotte. The committee charged with the arrangements for the portrait are Dr. Aynes Stout, chairman. Gerald Eller. E. V. Deans, L. R. Taft, and Robert C. Hall.
