Title devised by cataloger. "Photostatic copy by Dept. of Archives & History, Raleigh, North Carolina, from records in its archives, Jan. 18, 1984." Also noted are the locations of the residence of D.D. Davies in the Cullowhee Township, the Dills' Mills in the Webster Township, copper mines, mountains and mountain passes. The original 1868 map was prepared by J. The map portrays Jackson County prior to the creation of Swain County in 1871 and delineates and identifies the eight townships into which the county was divided. A certification signed by Dills and the county commissioners accompanies the original 1868 map. Rivers and creeks are also shown and identified--Information taken from abstract provided by North Carolina State Archives. No. 1. Deep Creek Township -- no. 2. Qualla Township -- no. 3. Webster Township -- no. 4. Scotts Creek Township -- no. 5. Savannah Township -- no. 6. Cullowhee Township -- no. 7. Caney Fork Township -- no. 8. Cashiers Valley Township.
