  • Between 1914 and the late 1960s, the Champion Fibre Company published an internal newsletter, called The Log, to share news about the Canton mill, the community, and its employees. After 1940, news from the entire “Champion Family,” which included mills in Hamilton, Ohio; Houston, Texas and Sandersville, Georgia, was featured in each issue.

Fore-st · ursery .. REFORESTATIO-N . For many years Reuben B. Robertson, Sr., President of The Charnpi,on Fibre Company, has been deeply interested in reforestatio11, due to the fact, perhaps., that there is so 1nuch idle land in North Carolina and the Southeastern states. He has contended tb at reforesta~ tlon would not only check .soil erosion, but add materjalJy to the fertility of the soil, · and provid-e for the Jando1-vner a permanent source of income. In past }ears landowners have made no real effort to retw'n to the soil the fertility "\'?hich has been r e- • moved by cu1tivation1 eonseq_uently soil erosion ha practically ruined millions of acres .. It seems that, neither the state nor o'-vners of waste land in ~orth Caroli11a realize the IJossilJilities of r efot eslati(Jll and t.he benefits which rnight he derived f1·c1m it.
