It is through the efforts of Senator Pritchard and others in Washington supplemented by this work of the Association, that the measure is now being so favorably considered. In order to comply with th"*s requests coming from Washington, the officers and a few friends in Asheville have had to make a loan to the association that there might be no delay in answering the demands being made upon us. It does not seem right that the burden of this great movement should fall upon a few. Member a imifliiMBflflMw*** of the association expect to remain in Asheville sending out to the press of the country such printed matter as they think will do most good and be in a posi- tion to furnish those in Washington who are looking after the bill, any information asked for, if it is within our power. Prof. Holmes writes that we should raise from five hundred to fifteen hundred dollars and that he thinks that he can raise $500.00 in Charlotte and Durham. Letters have been sent to Greensboro, M, C. m^~ to Greenville, S. C. and other points asking for contributions. State Legislation is to be secured from the Legislatures of North Carolina and Tennessee, now in session,—the Georgia Legislature already having passed a bill giving the general Government certain rights in connection with this movement.
