This 1953 photograph shows Dave Plott (left) and Bruce Nanny measuring what they say is the largest sassafras tree in the region. Five feet in diameter this sassafras stands in Plott’s yard in Dellwood near Waynesville, North Carolina. More information about this photograph can be found in the Champion publication The Log.
