  • AUDITOR'S REPORT sums as are necessary for expenses incident to the carrying on of the work of said North Carolina Park Commission, as in the opinion of the National Park Service and the Commission is necessary to continue the necessary and active existence of said North Carolina Park Commission." Further: At the meeting of the Commission held in the Director's office in Washington on April 3rd, 1936, the following resolution was passed: "It was resolved by the North Carolina Park Commission that pursuant to the resolution duly passed on January 22, 1934, that of the funds now in the hands of the said North Carolina Park Commission $25,000 of the same be, and the same is hereby allocated for the purpose of paying specific amounts toward the purchase of lands in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on the Tennessee side, upon the order of the Director of the National Park Service; and checks shall be issued by the Chairman and the Treasurer pursuant to such order." From time to time at the request of the National Park Service additional allocations were made until the total amount allocated amounted to $59,500.00, and also at the request of the National Park Service the amount allocated was made available not only for the purchase of land in the park area in Tennessee but also for expenses incident to such acquisition. The status of the Tennessee allotment at December 31st, 1939, shows as follows: Total Allotment $59,500.00 Expended to December 31st, 1939: Land Purchased CopyrigktedMaterial $38,299.68 Expenses Paid Western Carolina University 6,644.49 Hunter Library Total Expended $44,944.17 Balance of Tennessee Allotment $14,555.83 Office Equipment: All of the office furniture of the Commission has been turned over to the National Park Service. In Conclusion: This report is compiled for statistical purposes and does not purport to show the detail of the cash received and disbursed. In a separate report, however, I have compiled a detailed accounting for the present Commission showing all cash received and disbursed for the period August 1st, 1933, to December 31st, 1939. There has also been compiled a separate report showing an accounting of the $10,000. provided by the State of North Carolina for its proportional part of The Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial, erected in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.   • This North Carolina Park Commission Report was completed at the close of 1939 and submitted to North Carolina Governor Clyde R. Hoey. The 62-page publication, compiled for the Commission by Albert H. Blake, begins with a letter to the governor reporting that all of the land on the North Carolina side of the park has been purchased and conveyed to the federal government. The report includes an auditor’s report, information about the Rockefeller fund, and a copy of the 1927 law that brought the commission into being. The report includes lists tracts of land, family names, and values paid for purchase. W.W. Neal was chairman of the commission at the time and G.F. Hankins was secretary.
