  • Blanket Mountain, Clingman's Dome, Red Top and Sharp Top, in the Great Smokies; and Cumberland Falls and Ozone Falls in the Cumberland Mountains. This is our first time to invade the Cum- berlands. We have new routes to Mt. Guyot and Thunderhead, which really makes them new hikes for us. Many times have we had trips via Rainbow Falls and via Alum Cave to Mt. LeConte, but the fact that we were going on to the top of Le Conte has kept some of our less ambitious members away. But, this year, we have separate trips with these two impressive features as the destinations. These should be well attended hikes. One of our enthusiastic hikers recently re marked that there has been too little opportunity for all our members to get together and get better acquainted, and added that "surely some member of the club has a great big living room with a cheerful fireplace, and a 'hankering' to have some jolly outdoor folk around". This being such an accurate description of Chas. I. Barber, our meeting of Jan. 17 was arranged. We carried the idea a bit further and planned the nature-study program for April 18 and the moonlight trek for June 11. These, with the customary election banquet and the installation meeting, should solve the acquaintance and fellowship problems. Any organization will receive criticism. Fortunately, all of ours has been constructive. During the past few years one group of members has complained that we have too many long, hard hikes. At the same time, another group was saying that there are too many short trips. These comments indicated to us that, as a rule, those who prefer the more difficult hikes do not care for the easier ones, and vice versa. To meet this situation, we grouped our 9 longest and our 9 shortest hikes, and scheduled one of each on the same week-ends. We believe that this will be popular with the club members, since it gives to each group the full quota of extra long or extra short trips and leaves time for a proportionately greater number of medium length hikes which appeal alike to all
