MY COLOR My color is black Your color is white In life, you had it easy In life, I had to fight You gave the command I had to behave You was my master I was your slave You raped my women And made them lose face You treated me like dirt As if I weren't part of the human race I planted your fields I picked your cotton I was the first man at the North Pole Yet, In history I've been forgotten I gave you wonders from a nut Things that you could not believe I did all of this for you Yet, in return, what did I receive? This 1978, 36-page book of poems titled Neo-Blackness was published by the Organization of Ebony Students. Named in 1973, the Organization of Ebony Students was originally the Black Students United for Liberation which was founded in 1968 to promote unity among African American students. The organization is now called the Black Student Union and continues to promote the interests of WCU’s African American student body through cultural and educational activities and is open to all cultures.
