  • WILLIAM WALKER Andrew Jackson With a background of dramatic experience from Elon College where he is a senior, Walker is a newcomer to the Unto These Hills cast. He had the lead in the college production of The Imaginary Invalid and Harvey, played Editor Hovstod in Enemy of Society and Antonio in The Tempest. A North Carolinian, he was born at Tarboro and makes his home at Durham. He was in the United States Air Force from 1951 until 1953, flying in combat as a B-29 gunner in Korea with the 98th Bomb Wing on twenty-two missions. LOUIS NUNNERY Eagle Dance A native of South Carolina and former director of the Charlotte Ballet Company, this is Nunnery's second year with Unto These Hills as the leading dancer in the Eagle Dance and as assistant to the choreographer. He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and the School of Dance Arts in New York. Nunnery this fall will go on tour as the Premier Danseur of the New South Dance Theatre. JO ANN CATOLSTER Nundayeli Cherokee Indian, Miss Catolster is making her debut in a speaking role although this marks her sixth season with the Unto These Hills company. In previous seasons she has been a member of the dance group and has also been in the crowd scenes. A graduate of Cherokee High School, she has attended Union College at Barbour- ville, Kentucky, for the past two years where she acted in The Curious Savage and was makeup artist for other college productions. She is the author of two plays, one of which—My Guardian Angel—was presented at Union College. This fall she will transfer to Haskell Institute to study secretarial administration. GRAYCE BURIAN Ann Worcester With experience as an off-Broadway actress, Grayce Burian joins the Unto These Hills cast this season to play the role of Ann Worcester. She is on leave of absence from Radio Station Wl'TR of Albany, New York, where she takes the lead in various plays. She has had ten years in summer and winter stock and in off-Broadway productions. In 1950 she won the George Kreedley Award for the most promising young actress for her off- Broadway work in The Doctor's Wife. A graduate of Boston University and Cornell University, she is a native of Boston. She is the wife of Jarka Burian who again is playing the role Tsali. ROBERT THOMPSON Tsali's Youngest Son Robert Thompson represents the third generation of one of Cherokee's oldest families participating in the drama. His father Jeff plays White Path and his grandfather Arsene plays Elias Boudinot. Robert is nine years old and this is his fifth season with Unto These Hills. He is the youngest actor ever employed in the drama. JOSEPH WHITEHEAD John Ross This is Whitehead's first season with Unto These Hills. His experience in the theatre includes summer stock at Flat Rock Playhouse and in the outdoor drama, Sword of Gideon, at Kings Mountain where he played the role of Colonel Carleton. A junior at Catawba College where he has appeared in several plays, Whitehead is a North Carolinian. He was born at Washington and now makes his home at Rocky Mount.
