  • s* Iashviue. fy , March 23rd, 1901, ( - Dr. c. P. Ambler, Secretary ft Treasurer A. N. P. Association, Asheville, N. C. Dear Sir:— I received a letter from you some time ago notifying me that I had beet! elected Vice-President of your Association, and asking if I would accept the position. In my Messages I have urged the state to the establishment of parks and the preservation of the forestry, and as this proposition is now before them, and as it is a question so far-reaching, until our state manifests a disposition to do so, I would not feel justified in accepting a designation which meant, if it meant anything, my favor of the cession. wgat our State will do, has not yet been determined and what it should do, is not yet very clear. I will therefore be compelled to decline, notwithstanding I am strongly for the preservation of our Crests. Yours very truly, 'A
