  • And hastily as this is written I would be pleased if you would preserve this letter, for frail a thing as is a sheet of paper it will survive and be legible long after the hand that wrote it shall have mouldered to dust, although I am now in good health and likely to be here as long as most persons of my age, yet according to the course of nature I shall pass away many years before either of you, at least I hope you will both long survive me. I am impatient to see you but it will be at least over a week before I can get home I send you and Willie and Joe a hundred kisses, and hope to find you all well when I see you.
