  • the right. Some 50 feet back on the trail, an Indian head is carved on a large beech tree. The Gregory trail follows a ridge to the top and many fine views may be seen on the way up. When the state line has been reached, go one mile west to the top of Gregory Bald. Returning, follow the state line east about four miles to Ekaneetlee Gap, then turn left and return to Willie Myers. Leave Dixie System, Saturday at 1 P. M. and drive to John Oliver's in Cades Cove. Oliver's Lodge accommodates about 35 people, a small fee being charged to stay there. Take camping equipment if you wish to sleep out; and food for three meals, canteen and candle lantern. Round trip driving distance, 100 miles. Round trip hiking distance to Gregory Bald and state line, 13 miles, altitude 4,947 feet. Hiking distance to Ekaneetlee Gap, 8 miles, altitude 3,853 feet. The trail is along a well beaten path made by Knoxville sportsmen—hunters, and fishermen. This trip will be interesting to geologists, naturalists, historians, and all the other ologists. Citico Creek was originally a hunting ground of one of the Cherokee Indian Tribes. The meaning of Citico is "Clearwater."
