  • June the 15th /63 In Camp near Fredericksburg, Va. Dear Father A few lines to you to inform you of my present situation. I am in common health, hoping my lines will come to hand and find you all in fine condition. I wrote a letter to you the other day and stated that we was in line of battle and had been for several days. Yankies that was on the side of the river has all at once disappeared and give back. We have moved out of our breastworks and gone into camp about two miles below the town. I am unable to tell what will be the next move. We are under marching orders now but I am unable to tell you where we will go. The opinion is gaining ground in our camp that we will go to Vicksburg before long. It is reported now that the Yankie army at this place is falling back towards Washington. The future is misty and it is impossible for me to tell what we will do and where we will go. I will continue to write as often as I can and that is more than any of you has. George Griffin has not come yet. I have wrote in three different letters what things I wanted. I suppose you have got some of them—2 checked shirts with short collars, 2 pair drawers, 1 pair paints, 1 pair socks, 1 handkerchief and one pair shoes. I want the shoes very bad. I suppose that you have seen in the papers that all Con federate money that was dated before this last December print be sent in and bonds taken in the place of it. All t he money that I have got at home is dated before that time
