  • PERSONALS Miss Bernice Bridges spent the first week-end in April with her sister in Sylva. Misses Hope McLean and Clara Thomas spent the week-end of the 2nd at their homes in Easley and Central, South Carolina. The following motored to Asheville March 30th, to see Abie's Irish Rose: Misses Reams, Benton, Thomas, Taylor, Oliver, Mesdames Posey, and The senior B. Y. P. U. enjoyed a delightful social at the home of Reverend and Mrs. I. K. Stafford on Friday evening, April 1st. After many enjoyable games and contests delicious refreshments were served, consisting of lemonade and cake. Miss Frances McCotter and Miss Elizabeth Moody spent the week-end of April 1st with Miss Moody's parents in Sylva. On Wednesday, March 30th, Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Hunter, Mrs. Posey, Miss Reams and .Miss Lucy Jane Hunter motored to Asheville, for the purpose of selecting new draperies for the parlors in Moore dormitory. Miss Sue Allison has returned to school from Cornelia. Georgia, where she was recently called by the illness and death of her aunt, Mrs. J. W. Crawford. Misses Ada Walker, Edna May Henderson and Mr. Ralph Wetzer of Brevard were visitori of Miss Marion Henderson Sunday, March 27th. Miss Lois Willis was delightfully- surprised Sunday, the 3rd, with the following visitors from her home Misses Vangie Willis, Florence Seine and Mr. Spurgeon Young. Miss Fannie Goodman, with the members of her table of the winter quarter, enjoyed ■ very pleasant picnic on Wednesday evening, April 8th. Several visitors were also Included in the party. HUM* Elisabeth Moody, i.a/.elie Henson and Bernice Bridges attended a tea given by Mrs. D. D. Hooper of Sylva on Tuesday afternoon, April 5th. The occasion was for the purpose of announcing the engagement and approaching marriage of her daughter, Annie Jo to Mr. Olin Williams, of Knoxville, Ten... Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Bullock and son, Mrs. Baine and Miss Henrietta Baine of Sylva. were visitors of Miss Annie Thomas, Sunday afternoon, April 3rd. THE CULLOWHEE YODEL We regret to announce that Miss Eleanor Gladstone, Librarian, is in the Merriweather Hospital, Asheville, having her eyes treated. We hope that she will soon be able to return Mies Lazelle Henson spent the week-end with her home people at Sylva. The students and faculty enjoyed a recent chapel program given by Mr. 1 K. Miss Ray's class in Science 131 took an interesting trip, Wednesday afternoon, April 6th, studying birds and flowers. Mrs. James DeHart of Bryson City visited her daughter, Gladys, Monday, April 4th. Mr. Charles Sutton visited his mother in Franklin, the week-end of April 2nd. Misses Annie Ray and Helen Saund ers were guests at dinner in the home of Mr. and Mrs. I. K. Stafford, Sunday, April " " Another picnic supper on March 30th was enjoyed by the members of Miss Casey's table with a few invited guests at the Cullowhee picnic grounds. Miss Harriette Brendle visited her parents at Franklin during the weekend of April 2nd. With spring comes the call for the out-of-doors. Miss Reams and a group of girls from Moore dormitory are answering the call by regular- morning hikes before breakfast. We are wondering how long they will continue to answer the call. On Thursday, 31st, Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Hunter had as their guests Mrs. R. H. Weaver and Miss Sarah Gray of Weaverville, and Mrs. H. L. Jones of Charlotte. President Hunter gave a very practical and inspirational talk at chapel last week on the subject of religion and its relationship to world affairs. He showed that all social and political acts, whether personal or national are strongly affected by religious influences. Miss Stella Bradfield has had as her guest for the last few days Miss Nora Edmed, of London, England. Miss Edmed is a graduate of the University of London and at present is an Exchange Foreign Fellow at Smith College, Northampton, Mass. Miss Mayme Garrett is teaching her fourth year in West Buncombe High School with splendid success. It is rumored that she intends to make teaching her life profession. We are glad to announce that Mr. Fulton Thomasson of the August class, 1926, is making a good record as principal of the Culberson Ele mentary schools. He states that he is always delighted to receive The Yodel and to hear about Cullowhee. We regret to hear of the death of Mrs. Cheek, formerly Miss Madeline McDonald, of Black Mountain, whom we remember most pleasantly as a summer school student of 1925. She was living in Miami, Florida, at the time of her death.
