My dear sir: I am in receipt of your letter of the 14th forwarded from Raleigh and in reply I beg to say that I have requested our expert in "orestry, Hr. W. W. Ashe, to furnish you such information concerning the forests of western North Carolina as he may be able. I also beg to send you by to-day's mail copy of our recently issued report on the timber trees and forests of North Carolina. On pages 208 -224 you will find a general statement concerning the forests of the mountain coulties. On page 142 you will find some general statements concerning the physiographic features of the mountain counties. I hope very much to be able to attend the meeting in the inlte^est of the National Park at Asheville on the 22nd, though it is not yet certain that I will be able to do so Yours truly, ^-^ State Geologist.
