  • Zebulon Weaver (1872-1948) was a lawyer and U.S. Representative from western North Carolina. He was a member of the North Carolina Park Commission and was involved in the land acquisition process that went towards establishment of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and development of the Blue Ridge Parkway. In this letter from D. R. Bryson to Zebulon Weaver, Bryson urges Weaver to push for the passage of the bill setting up the Smoky Mountain National Park during the current session of Congress. Bryson points out delays in the bill’s passage might lead to speculation on park lands and even a waning of interest in this project.
  • D. R.'BRYSON, M. D. BRYSON CITY, N. G. 4/17 26 Hon. Zebulon Weaver, Washington, D.C. Dear Sir; Thank you for sending me a copy of the park bill. As far as I can see it is all right. The thing I would ask you to do if you possibly can is to get this bill through at this term of congress. This would not only help you as it would be really imperative for you to return for farther development, but would be a great help to the park movement as there is a tendency to speculate in lands in this country as you know we have a boom and we do not want any speculation in park land which probably would happen if the action was deferred till next fall. Then if action is delayed any, interest naturally Western Carolina Univeirsitu So if there is any possible chance, please use pour influence to have the measure put through this session.
